Neela Bettridge is an independent consultant on sustainability, and an executive coach and mentor to individuals and organizations in different countries. She was a founding partner of Article 13 Group, a specialist consultancy on social responsibility.

Rather than seeing matters such as values and governance as shackling business effectiveness, she sees them, when well conceived and delivered, as liberators of business opportunity and assisting in risk management.

Neela’s expertise lies in inspiring and enabling individuals and groups to realise their vision and take ownership of issues, enjoy the delivery of solutions to them, and then go on to reap the rewards of incorporating new values into “invigoration through innovation”.  Neela’s clients range from government departments to FTSE 100 companies in a range of sectors including food, healthcare, retail, transport, finance, pharmaceutical and mining.

Philip Whiteley is an author and journalist, specialising in the working environment and business performance. He argues that management requires a conceptual shift, recognising human activity and skills as the source of all assets, rather than just an item on the balance sheet.

His self-published book Meet the New Boss was shortlisted for the 2010/2011 Chartered Management Institute-British Library Management Book of the Year Award, Digital Book category. The Global You, co-authored with Susan Bloch, was published October 2010 by Marshall Cavendish. It describes ten strategies to think and act globally as an international worker; agreement has been reached for three translations.

He has written for numerous business titles, including Personnel Today, Coaching at Work, and Director magazine. For four years, he contributed a weekly column on executive remuneration for The Times. He also undertakes many writing commissions for corporate clients. He is also editor in chief of Payroll World, working with its publisher Athene on their multi-media business development.

Philip is a member of the Society of Authors, and a Subject Matter Expert for the Chartered Management Institute. He is a fluent Spanish speaker, with a Diploma Letter of Credit from the Institute of Linguists.

  11. Hi. I picked you up from a reference in today’s ILM newsletter. I’ve shared many of your views for years – first and foremost, business is about people. It’s good to see you airing them so widely. But is there any sign the markets can be persuaded to start valuing companies using non-financial (ie relationship-based) measures, and will this force companies to put CSR investment on hold?

  12. Simon – thanks for your comments. There is now a strong evidence base that investing in people/employee engagement are better indicators of good business management than financial indicators. I would recommend Laurie Bassi’s work in the US. Do see also Simon Caulkin’s article in the FT this week (http://tinyurl.com/7c9lseh), citing the evidence that Fortune ‘best companies to work for’ outperform the average. Our point on Radical Shift is that this evidence has been ignored because of cynical myths about business that come from economic & political theories. So markets can and are being persuaded; please help spread the word!
